Founders David Axmark and Michael "Monty" Widenius have been writing their yearly "State of the Dolphin" address and CEO Mårten Mickos is crafting his "State of MySQL AB" presentation.
Sun Microsystems software group executive VP, Jonathan Schwartz, will visit the conference and present a keynote titled, "History Repeats Itself: What Linux Can Learn From the Unix Wars."
The MySQL core developers have been preparing technical sessions that provide expert-level insight into the working of the various parts of the MySQL engine.
A few of the highlighted developer sessions include:
** "A Guided Tour of the MySQL Source Code" (Michael "Monty" Widenius and Zak Greant)
** "The Anatomy of the MySQL Query Optimizer" (Michael "Monty" Widenius and Igor Babaev)
** "MySQL Connector/J: Using MySQL from Java" (Mark Matthews)
Some of the most prominent and respected members of the MySQL community
have also been preparing sessions for the conference. Author Paul DuBois, well-known for his work on MySQL, has created a tutorial on using MySQL with powerhouse Open Source scripting language Ruby.
One of the world's most experienced deployers of MySQL, Yahoo! Finance's technical guru Jeremy Zawodny, is offering a set of matched tutorials on optimizing and replicating MySQL.
Other highlights include David Harper & Ed Zuiderwijk from the Welcome Trust Sanger Institute discussing how they use MySQL to help in the work of decoding the DNA of many organisms responsible for deadly human diseases such as malaria, leprosy, typhoid fever and sleeping sickness.
In total, the conference has over 50 sessions that cover a broad range of topics and skill levels. For a complete overview of the conference schedule, please visit: http://mysql.com/events/uc2003/techsessions.html.
While the sessions are going on, the exhibit hall will feature some of the coolest things that our partners and business users are doing with MySQL. Intel will be on hand to show off just how very fast their new Itanium 2 chip is. Novell and Blue World will demonstrate how MySQL integrates with their products, and Rackspace will woo you with their incredible support for MySQL in their managed hosting service.
In addition to the daytime sessions, the evenings of the conference will feature discussion groups with topics ranging from benchmarking to wishes for future MySQL features.
Also, the evenings will offer an Opening Night Reception party and a Friday night dinner extravaganza.
This is a great opportunity to visit beautiful San Jose and spend time interacting with the MySQL community.
Pre-registration is $495 USD and includes meals, sessions, tutorials and exhibits for all three days. On-site registration is $695.00. Register for the event at https://order.mysql.com/?sub=pg&pg_no=14
