The biggest asset Communications Service Providers (CSPs) have to compete and grow in the market is their data - specifically customer data. This data is much more than just traditional customer billing details. It includes something no other organization has access to: location data, device data, session data, "friends and family" data (i.e. social networking), etc.
This data, if managed and mined properly, is the key differentiator for CSPs. It allows them to accelerate customer adoption, increase ARPU and reduce churn, enabling CSPs to deliver truly personalized and targeted services based on very precise subscriber metrics. The data allows CSPs to embrace new business models, including advertising-funded services which promise marketers the ability to much more closely define and target customers, even down to the level of the individual.
While many CSPs have the data, the challenge becomes what to do with it or how to monetize it. More than ever before, CSPs depend on business analytics to provide competitive advantage, reduce customer churn, and adhere to regulatory requirements. At the same time, they must be able to quickly query data to gain new levels of insight to their customers.
